Life in the UK Test FAQs

Test format, official booking, study materials and how this independent practice site works.

How many questions are in the Life in the UK Test?

The official test has 24 questions and you have 45 minutes to answer them. The questions are based on the official Life in the UK handbook.

What is the pass mark?

You need 75% or more to pass: at least 18 correct answers out of 24. A practice score on this site is not an official result and cannot predict your test result.

How do I book the official test?

Start at GOV.UK and use its official booking link. This site cannot book appointments or take payments. Check GOV.UK for current fees, identification requirements and booking instructions before you book.

What should I study?

Study the official Guide for New Residents. GOV.UK links to the official shop for the handbook, eBook, audio, e-learning and practice app. Our independent study guide provides supplementary revision.

Are these the real test questions?

No. Our questions are original practice questions written in our own words. They are not taken from the real test. Use the explanations and source notes to check facts and identify topics to revise.

Is this an official government website?

No. Study Up is an independent Life in the UK Test study website. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by GOV.UK, the Home Office or official test providers. Follow GOV.UK for official test guidance.

Where is my practice progress saved?

Guests can practise without an account: scores stay in this browser, and clearing site data removes them. Sign in to save your best mock score, cumulative topic scores and recent sessions across devices. You can choose to import existing guest progress once into your account without replacing account results. Pending results retry after reconnecting, but must finish saving before you clear browser data. Browser storage restrictions may prevent keeping unsaved results. Unfinished rounds are not synced. Logging out hides account progress and returns to the public home page. Personal scores are never included in public study pages or our sitemap.

Official guidance can change. Check the linked GOV.UK pages before booking or attending a test.
